Our first few days at the beach we felt compelled to go places and do things, we quickly learned that with two sun-tired children, it is best to lay low.
The first night we went to seaside and had ice cream and a food truck dinner (in that order), then since it was still early, we decided to drive to Baytowne Wharf. That actually worked out pretty well until the way home when both children were beyond tired, which makes Z look like a zombie and Lu very vocally mad.
Z had a blast though, he did this “jumpy thing” that we didn’t have to wait in line for. Then, he spotted an arcade where we spent the rest of the evening. They both loved that arcade, and again we were like the only people in there.
Lu really wandered around the arcade trying to get every ball she could see saying “ball, ball!” then she set her sights on the prizes, and she actually got one from the lady working behind the counter, but I don’t think it was exactly what she had in mind, as she threw it on the floor right after she got it… Oops.
Another afternoon we went to Rosemary Beach and walked around after our morning beach play and nap, then we thought we’d try a nice dinner. Then we thought again.
Lu did not want to sit still, and Z was acting like a crazy person, being loud, not listening, spilling his Shirley Temple all over the place. After an unsuccessful attempt at calming Lu down by taking her outside only to have Z act even crazier in our absence, there was a unanimous decision to abort the mission. So 20 dollar chicken fingers in hand, we handed in our valet ticket and headed straight to the house.
Maybe you can see the progression in the pictures. Let me tell you, I was so ready to have a nice diner too. I had them dressed and everything, but they obviously had other plans…
I think that look right there, on Lu’s face as I am clutching her forcing her back into her highchair should’ve been my sign that she was feeling determined to get away from the white tablecloth and back to the plasticware of our lovely beach abode.
When we got back to the house (thankfully about 3 minutes away) and sat them at their little table with their food, they were as happy as could be. Go figure.
You live you learn I guess, and to be honest, we love being at home with them, so I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, and all’s well that ends well.
