We're at the Beach!

As I sit here, I am looking out my window at the ocean, while my babies are napping. We spent our third morning in a row at the beach playing in the water, catching crabs (that's all Nick), and building sand castles. It has been great! I thought I would take a minute while I have one to share some of the pictures I have managed to get so far.

Nick's first catch: Z named him "creature."

This house has the nicest deck overlooking the water. It's our lather up (and sometimes snacking) station.

There are a few common things you may see in pictures from this trip. One is Lu holding a bag of goldfish. She is doing that a lot. The other is Z's new face, it's like a half-cocked smile, kinda popeye-ish. Hilarious!

You may also notice Lulu is wearing Minnie Mouse shoes in this picture. I bought those from the outlets when I spent the day there with my sister, which incidentally was the perfect way to kick off my vacay! You know Lulu has to have her shoes!

I hear Zayd singing the darth vader entry music from his bed, so I think that's my cue to wrap it up. More to come later!

15 Month Appointment

I took Lu to the doctor on Friday for her check-up. I was planning on leaving Z with my mom because last time he went with me, I’m fairly sure he picked up the stomach bug from there. That didn’t work out, so I brought him along anyway. He was so sweet and said “Heyyy!” to the ladies at the front desk, at which point Lu started waving, and I thought well, aren’t they being social?!

She cried when they weighed her, cried when they checked her ears (and found an ear infection), cried (her head off) when they gave her her shots. Then, she was okay again. It was a little rough for me however.

Luckily I employed big brother to bring in the smiles

Her stats were great. She is 20 lbs 12.5 oz (25th percentile) and 31 inches (approximately, they measured 32, but I know that was wrong because I watched her scoot up in between markings) which puts her in about the 75th percentile.

Zayd was a great helper, and he had fun too. He also got 2 suckers out of it.

We went to Chick-Fil-A and back to Nunna’s to eat, then home for triple naps! One of those naps was facilitated by the new activity, jumping off the ledge and yelling “Sophia!” Why Sophia, noone knows. All in all it was a good and productive day!

Lu 15 Months

I have decided that 15 months is the point which babies are no longer babies. I’m not sure what happened in the past 3 months, but Lu seems totally different. She’s a walking, talking person. She seems taller, bigger, stronger, and in just three months!

When she was 1, I couldn’t even mom-create a word she was saying. Now, she (relatively clearly) says ball, shoes, cheese (those two sound similar, but she knows how to say them in the right context), mama, baba, book, night night, uh oh (only once or twice), and bow, and just this morning she signed more for the first time (for blackberries).

Her little personality is coming through more and more every day. One noticeable thing she does is gravitate towards Zayd’s toys/things. Exhibit A and B below: When the cat’s away…

She is obsessed with shoes, wants to wear them all the time! And she really likes socks, especially one of Zayd’s that she got when it dropped out of the dryer that she now sleeps with. Go figure!

Our little girl is growing right before our eyes, and I can’t believe it! I love her so much!!

First Day of School

I was really fine about this whole first day thing. It’s not that big of a deal in my house, I mean sure Lu is moving up to Infant 4, which means she’ll sleep on a cot with a napmat and yes Z is going to K4. No biggie. I was good until this happened.

We took a few pictures, but otherwise everything was normal. Nick loaded them up in his car and I backed out of the garage, he was about to leave with them, when he flagged me down to come back for Z. When I opened the door, he was bawling his eyes out, wiped his tears, flashed a huge smile and said “Have a great day at work, Mama!” to which I replied “Have a great day at school, Zayd!” He gave me a hug and I went back to my car and left. You see, it has become our tradition to say have a great day to each other in the mornings, and in all the hustle and bustle, I had apparently forgotten, and he wasn’t having that.

It was all I could do to not burst into tears in the car. To see him get so upset, then wipe his tears smile and say something so sweet, it just melts my heart.

I will have to say Nick wasn’t getting emotional about it either, until he was telling me about Z meeting his teacher and saying “Nice to meet you” just like we have been teaching him for a while now. He just kindof stopped talking for a second, and he was like I don’t know why I’m getting emotional. We just both had a moment there, but we’re good, now. Onto the pictures.

I took a few before they left, and I was so happy Nick took some when they got there! We are so proud of them both, they did a great job with their first days! Much better than us!

Sunday Blues

I have a love/hate relationship with Sundays. On the one hand, you can sleep in a little usually not many places you have to go or things you have to do. On the other, you know that next up is Monday. We medicated our Sunday blues by going to the park with Nana.

After we cleaned up and took naps, we resumed our Sunday tradition of taking a family trip to the grocery store and coming home to make dinner.

We rounded out the evening by doing Brainquest cards with Z then putting him to bed (and Lu of course, we put her to bed earlier). He has started asking us some of the questions on the cards, then when we get them right, he gives us a hug and says “Good job, Mama/Baba!”

Even though we were sad that Nana had to leave in the afternoon, I’d say this one was pretty good Sunday.

Weekend with Nana and Shoe Girl

Nana was here this weekend and we loved having her. Z had so much fun, he didn’t even notice when we left for our date night on Friday night. We had the best time, and all 5 minutes from our house!

When we returned (around 10), we found Z fast asleep on the couch with Star Wars still going strong. Nana said he tried, but he just couldn’t stay awake. Nick carried him up the stairs, and I leaned over to tell him good night, he opened his eyes, gave me the biggest smile and wrapped his little arm around me. My heart melted!
Saturday was busy! He had swim lessons, then they went to Pita Stop and Treetop and mom and I went to a wedding.

I thought I’d slip out of the wedding early and meet Z at Treetop, but that didn’t happen. I got this text from Nick while I was at the wedding:
“Z’s in bed now, but he made me leave the door open a crack so you would come say good night to him when you get home.” (tear)
Then the next morning, the first thing he said to me was: “You didn’t come meet me at Treetop, yesterday!”
I hated letting him down. Safe to say he (and Lu) had a good time anyway!

Lu is in the most hilarious phase right now where she wants to wear shoes all the time. Whenever she sees any of her shoes, she picks them up, brings them to you, sits down, and sticks her little foot out. It is so cute, I can’t even stand it. Reminds me of when Z would bring us a book, then sit in our lap and turn facing outward so we could read them to him. Not sure what that says about them though.
