Weekend Review: Spring Tease

We had a really nice relaxing weekend! It ended perfectly with beautiful weather on Sunday!

Thursday afternoon, when we got home, I let the babes play in the front for a bit. Z had the bright idea to play basketball with a tennis ball, which is all fun and games until the ball rolls down your driveway and halfway down the street… Oh, the hills. We’ll never get away from them (used to happen at our old house, too).

Lu continues to be fascinated by these creepy little bunnies that we inherited with the house. She says hello to them when we pull in and bye to them in the mornings. They both “feed” them and cover them up to keep them warm.

IMG_8061

It’s  probably the closest thing they’ll ever have to having a pet, so I let them run with it.

Friday did was Friday does best, rest, relaxation, recuperation from the week, amiright?!

IMG_8066

Saturday we did our usual routine of gym and Nunna and Jidos, McDonald’s, time with cousins! So fun!

Sunday was a beautiful day! The kids explored outside with Nick, and I washed my car and cleaned up around the house. Then, it was birthday parties and soccer! PERFECT, perfect, I tell ya!

IMG_8073

Because of soccer, Lu and I flew solo to the birthday party. Sister was CLINGY at first. I don’t remember Z ever being that way at parties. Eventually, I told her that if she wanted cake, she would have to play a little, so she finally did.

IMG_8076

And buddy, she cashed in on that cake promise!

We flew out of there, and made it in time for the end of Z’s soccer game. He had a great game! He scored a few goals, but more importantly, he seemed to really understand what was going on, and he had SO MUCH FUN! He declared Sunday as his favorite day because it is his soccer day!

Great weekend and a sneak peek of Spring, come on Spring!!!

Friday Favorites

It's Friday, we made it through a whole week with no weather days, and it's time for Friday Favorites.

If you've been looking for me lately, I've probably been doing this:

or this:

Two of my absolute favorites right now! I have been looking for something to get me back into the world of reading, and this book fit the bill, so so good! I can't wait to read her next one! Speaking of bills, we are loving House of Cards, so different than a lot of the things we usually watch, but so good! I think the third season is the best so far! (Ok, so yeah, I do fall asleep sometimes, but it's not because I don't love it, it's because, by golly I'm tired, but I always catch up the next day, usually in between patients at work).

Another favorite: Matilda Jane! I hosted a show last week, and it was so fun! I love having all that gorgeousness right in my house where I can touch and feel it, and bonus, my little model was (somewhat) cooperative, so we got to play a little dress up! So fun! I had so much fun, I didn't even get to take any pictures, but after everyone was gone and my little people were napping, I did get to sit down with my party food. Love eating leftover party food!

My last favorite, soccer! We took a break from soccer while we were selling and buying a house, but we all couldn't wait to get back in the game! Love my little soccer guy!

and his best cheerleader, of course.

Who knows, maybe she'll be playing soon.

Don't hold your breath...

The Snow Day That Wasn’t and Weekend Review

Last week, everyone (including me) started freaking out because we were going to get some real snow, like a real “snow event” they like to call it. Because nobody wanted a repeat of snowpocalypse 2014, we shut it down and had a bona fide snow day, which turned out to be a cold rain day and 5 minutes of snow right before bedtime, oh my gosh, we’re going to kill each other day.

We had cousins over, watched movies, colored, worked (well, Nick worked), played, ate, talked, built a fire, then we had about 8 hours left in the day with nothing to do. Okay, that may be a slight exaggeration, but it did seem like a looooong day, probably because we kept anticipating snow, and it never really came.

Snow… At bedtime, like a cruel joke.

IMG_7802IMG_7804

As if that weren’t eventful enough, we had cousin A’s birthday party at a trampoline place on Friday night and Z’s first soccer game on Sunday.

The party was so fun, and a little crazy. Z was like a mexican jumping bean!

IMG_7861IMG_7863

He’s so light that he just flew, by the way, this is double bouncing, and it is against the rules… #dadoftheyear

The birthday girl, seriously rocked it! By the way, how is she 9?

IMG_7884IMG_7906

Thankfully, Lu did not participate in the jumping, but she was an excellent spectator.

Uncle Faris was in town, so we had some photo ops before the party on Friday.

IMG_7822IMG_7832IMG_7843IMG_7856

Speaking of Uncle Faris, he spent 2 hours building a very complicated Lego Star Wars aircraft with Z on Friday, made Z a happy kid!

Saturday, we worked out, visited with my parents, and Nick and Z got his soccer gear while Lu and I shopped for home stuff. Then, we met up at Home Goods for a snack. They love to sit carts like this. Lu in the little part and Z in the big part.

IMG_7932

It was so pretty outside, we had to play just a little before naptime.

They gravitated toward this weird bunny thing that “came with” our house. Ignore our sketchy fence. We’ll get to it in time.

IMG_7934

Rode bikes and cars, and shot some hoops

IMG_7936IMG_7939IMG_7941IMG_7942

Sunday, we hit the soccer field! Z really got into it this time. Not only did he score a few goals, but he also played a little defense, and at one point tried to be a goalie, which is totally against the rules, but hilarious! He also kept score, so not like him, but he really had the BEST time!

IMG_7949IMG_7951

Lu was the perfect cheerleader and a far cry from how she behaved last year during soccer, spoiler alert, it wasn’t pretty.

She was having fun running back and forth from Nick to me.

IMG_7955

This is what they do when I tell them to pose and smile.

IMG_7961

They were SET on getting Kona, and it’s all over my car now, but they were happy, so there’s that.

IMG_7964

Perfect weekend, and I can’t wait for more soccer (and kona)!

Half Marathon!

Although my legs still remember, I am starting to forget some of the details of the marathon. Let’s see, where were we? Oh yes, the morning of, when a 90% chance of rain didn’t sound too bad to my dad.

So, crack of dawn (on a Sunday), we’re out the door, and it is raining. We had to park kindof far from the start line and walk, which was concerning to me, because I needed to save all of my energy for the actual race (13.1 miles!).

We put on our ponchos (some that we’d bought for Disney and never used), found our way to the back of the line and started.

IMG_7676IMG_7682IMG_7691

We were a few minutes in, when my dad said, don’t worry the first mile is the hardest. I felt encouraged until we got to about mile 3 and he said, the first three are the hardest, then at mile 7 or 8 when he said, oh we’re almost done, I flat out quit listening to him! Dang optimist…

IMG_7692

Speaking of Dad, he was doing just fine! He walks 7 to 10 miles regularly. And I must say, when I think about it, I have been impressed with my Dad for a LONG time. He’s always walked really fast, like I would be running holding his hand fast. He used to play tennis for HOURS in the blazing sun (and hardly even drink any water), and he’s been walking vigorously and for long distances now for many years, basically since he stopped playing tennis.

He and Mom are actually pretty well known in their neighborhood for walking like fools all the time. Doing this thing with him makes me realize what a huge accomplishment it was for him to do this three years ago by himself for the first time! Awesome!

Believe me, there is nothing and no one I would have gone out there for except for him (and Nick, of course)!

IMG_7717

We had heard about the balloon lady during Dad’s first year, and he had not seen her the past two years, but this year (thanks to me), she caught up with us, then she passed us… Turns out she sets the pace for the full marathon, but you can actually finish and get a medal if you finish after her in the half. She is actually a really awesome chick, who has run 100 marathons, and has set the pace for the Mercedes for years! She’s basically a walking metronome.

IMG_7704IMG_7707

Our strategy was this: Walk up all hills and at all times, unless you are passing a camera or a cheering section, then you must run, also run down the hills. Did I mention the hills? Good Lord, the hills! They were not alive, NOT alive….

Somewhere in the span of approximately 3 hours, we crossed the finish line, hallelujah!

So happy to finish with my guys!

IMG_7727IMG_7735IMG_7753IMG_7758IMG_7762

It was hard, like I couldn’t walk for three days hard, but I am so thankful to have this memory I can share with my Dad and Nick. Probably would’ve taken me all day if they hadn’t been pushing me.

And a very special shout out to my Mom who stayed with the babes so this could all be possible and for her ridiculous amount of cheerfulness at such an early hour. She’s the best cheerleader.
