Smell my feet, haha, just kidding. But seriously, when did we stop saying “trick or treat!”? Nowadays, the kids just walk up to the door and hold out their bags. We insisted that Z say trick or treat loud this year and follow with “thank you!”
He and cousin J had so much fun. Z kept saying, “Now we go to the next one.” A lot of people had to do a double take of Z to figure out what he was, but a majority of the kids recognized him right away. Nick went ahead while I fed the baby and put her down, and Amber (J’s nanny) stayed in the house with her so I could join the fun. Because everybody in our neighborhood has hills in their front yard the boys had each other, we let them go up to the door by themselves most of the night and we stayed on the sidewalk. They enjoyed the anticipation of walking up and it tired them out quicker. That plan backfired a couple of times, when they attempted to enter some of the homes. I guess they were drawn in by the warmth and the lights, the nice people handing them candy probably didn’t hurt either.
Super Why! with the power to READ! (and coax, here he’s saying, come on, Mama!)
J was a power ranger, which was of course all the rage a month ago when we got him the costume, but now he’s over it. There were several other power rangers and some people didn’t know what he was, compound that with the fact he couldn’t find his sword, and he was more than a little bummed, but he racked up on candy, so I think he’s gonna be okay. He, in fact, got 113 pieces (now 110, because we let him eat three last night). But who’s counting…
We were home by 7:30, and with one already in bed, the end was near. We debriefed, counted candy (Z had “twenty-nine” the highest number he knows) and the boys were in bed by 8:15, hallelujah! Amber left, and we sat down and quietly had 2 bowls of chili (each). It was rather nice. Meanwhile, Lu missed all the action, but she wasn’t too upset about that.
